Summary of Beyond Band of Brothers
Beyond Band of Brothers is a first-hand account of the true events that inspired the epic Band of Brothers series. Narrated by the man who commanded Easy Company into battle and onto victory. Major Dick Winters exhilarating representation of the grueling training and horrifying fighting endured by the men of Easy Company will make your mind go swirl for this legendary commander and the men he fought alongside. Jumping from his aircraft on D-Day in Normandy while under fire, Winters landed behind the enemy lines with nothing but a knife after losing all his weapons during the drop.
From this chaotic first battle, through to returning home changed him forever by the experience of war. Beyond Band of Brothers is a real story of how men become brothers and how heroes are made. The book adds detail and remark on the exploits of one of the US platoon within the combat to recapture the European mainland after the D-Day landing in Normandy.
Together with the extreme training of the members of the platoon under an officer in the camp, who came to be hated though because of his rigor, but whose determination to turn raw recruits into a combating machine become considerably liable for their capacity to fight the warfare in overwhelmingly tough circumstances because of their felt brotherhood.
10 Principle of success
- Strive to be a leader of character, competence and courage.
- Lead from the front, Say follow me and then lead way.
- Stay in top physical shape-physical stamina is the root of mental toughness.
- Develop your team. If you know your people, are fair setting realistic goal s and expectations and lead by example you will develop teamwork.
- Delegate responsibility to your subordinates and let them do their jobs. You cant do a good job if you don’t have a chance to use your creativity and imagination.
- Anticipate problems and prepare to overcome obstacles. Don’t wait until you get to the top of the ridge and then makeup your mind.
- Remain humble. Don’t worry about who receives credit. Never let power or authority to your head.
- Take a moment of self reflection. Look at yourself in mirror every night and ask yourself if you did your best.
- True satisfaction comes from getting the job done. The key to a successful leader is to earn respect-not because of rank or position, but because you are a leader of character.
- Hang tough- Never, ever give up
Book Review of Beyond Band of Brothers
I found Beyond Band of Brothers charming , regardless of the
fact that I have seen the TV series (which, by the way, is faithful and brings
out the spirit of the book). This book left me spellbound. every action is
given in so element. If someone is aware of little bit of military tactics
he'll understand how much lot element the
author has outlived his words to
recreate the scenes. Its simply excellent. I would for my part advocate to study
this book.
It is far an inspiration, readers will in reality like this
book. I am able to express the level of emotion gone via at some stage in this
book. After watching the series, I was determined to examine the book that inspired it all. Thoughtfully
written, highly endorsed to lovers of the mini collection and inquisitive about WW2 and leadership in
adversity.
Best lines I marked
- “An officer should never put himself in a position where he takes anything from men. As a commander, a leader must be prepared to give everything, including himself to the people he leads.”
- “A leader gains an advantage in the combat if he is able to appraise the terrain and situation quickly and correctly”.
- “The key to successful combat leader is to earn respect, not because of rank, but because you are a man.”
- “First and foremost,a leader should strive to be an individual of flawless character, technical competence and moral courage”
- “Those entrusted to lead must study their profession to become totally pro-efficient in tactics and technology.”
- “There is no need to tell someone how to do his job if you have properly trained your team.”
- “Leaders should assume blame when the operations fails;when it succeeds, credit the men and women in your team. They do the lion’s share of work.”
Now, I have to read this book. Thanks for sharing the review.
