NEXT LARRY PAGE WILL NOT CREATE SEARCH ENGINE,
NEXT ZUKERBERG WILL NOT BUILD A SOCIAL PLATFORM"
Book Summary Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future
In his book,” Peter Theil” discusses his learning from
PayPal days. He offers his perspective & teachings for future tech &
nontech start-ups. He presents his ideas in reference to world-class companies,
which differentiates them from other companies in-spite of delivering similar
genre of products or services. Concept of being 10X better than competitors.
This book is likely to challenge everyone’s opinion,
no matter what background. The Cherry on Cake is connecting business with science.
Peter admires monopoly, as it reduces competition. Unlike
conventional knowledge, where competition is admired, he advocates competition adds
less than it takes away. It promotes antisocial behavior. It does not create
money. “The concept of making the pie bigger than competing for a bigger share.” Well,
I must not spoil your curiosity by discussing his ideas.
Areas he covered include kind of future startups, profound
knowledge of what has been done & what needs to be done, discussion on psychology
of innovation, money, covert knowledge-what you are receiving from academics is
not complete-why it is hidden, foundation and sustaining a company, supply and demand,
synchronization of man and machine, green development, founders, investors and
executors paradox, categorization of personality.
Book Review: Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future
The diagrams for his ideas,(fun to read), is more look like class notes of
some smart kid. “Thing that attracts me as a reader is when the writer shows
content not vocabulary.” Zero to One delivers it very well.
I wished to see more words because sometimes it may feel like a slideshow presentation, lacking the real story behind it. It challenges the status
quo and it may be absurd for a few readers. But if you are the kind of person who smiles
when wrong, I am sure you will find plenty of moments like that.

ReplyDeleteInteresting book. The detailed review piques one's curiosity to read it. A unique point highlighted in the book is the author's support of businesses that starts small, but aim to create a niche for themselves over time, what we commonly refer to as 'brand'.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, this so well applies to India, where many startups do not even aim to grow beyond their 'micro', 'small' and 'medium' status for fear of losing out on state support to such firms. Enterprises intending to go much beyond are the ones that inspire mankind, or putting it Steve Jobs way - 'Create a dent in the universe'.
Small might often be beautiful, but big is sometimes better. Had Lord Krishna not taken His viraat form in Kurukshetra, Arjuna's doubts might have remained just too big for him to carry out his duty as a warrior.
Good going Tejashwi!
